Professional Bio
Dr. Kyle Livengood is a Navy Dental Officer with broad clinical experience and a strong leadership record across multiple operational and clinical settings. He was accepted into the Navy Health Professions Scholarship Program in 2012, earned his Doctor of Dental Medicine from Southern Illinois University School of Dental Medicine in 2016, and was commissioned into active duty service upon graduation.
He began his career with a one-year General Practice Residency at Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton, California, where he served as Chief Resident. There, he completed rotations in oral surgery, endodontics, internal medicine, and emergency care, and responded to after-hours ER trauma cases involving facial injuries and dental emergencies.
Following residency, Dr. Livengood served at U.S. Naval Hospital Yokosuka, Japan, from 2017 to 2019. He primarily treated Sailors assigned to ships in the Navy’s 7th fleet. In addition to his clinical duties, Dr. Livengood led a Red Cross volunteer dental assistant program. He temporarily filled a critical provider role aboard the USS Blue Ridge during its pre-deployment phase, supporting dental care readiness for shipboard personnel.
From 2019 to 2022, Dr. Livengood was stationed at Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Command (NMRTC) Pearl Harbor on Oahu, Hawaii, where he served as Department Head for both Comprehensive Dentistry and Clinic Operations, as well as Chief Dental Informatics Officer. He led major initiatives including the rollout of MHS GENESIS and Dentrix, managed multiple clinic sites, and supported patients on ships and in critical operational units across Oahu. He also served as the Pearl Harbor Brig Dental Officer and was instrumental in COVID-19 response operations, including mass vaccination and foreign dignitary testing.
Most recently stationed at NMRTC Great Lakes, Dr. Livengood served as Department Head of General Dentistry at the “USS Osborne” Dental Clinic at the Navy’s only “Boot Camp”. He led over 70 personnel delivering dental care to more than 40,000 annual Navy recruits and supervised complex Electronic Health Record and informatics training initiatives. He also provided care to military veterans at the James A Lovell Federal Health Care Center.
Dr. Livengood has been recognized with one Navy Commendation Medal, two Navy Achievement Medals, and one Army Achievement Medal, with a second Commendation Medal pending. He looks forward to continuing applying his leadership and clinical skills in the Navy Reserves to support operational readiness and high-quality patient care throughout the fleet.
Personal Bio
Dr. Kyle Livengood grew up in Sleepy Hollow, Illinois, and graduated with a degree in Biology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2011. He earned his DMD from Southern Illinois University School of Dental Medicine in 2016 and completed a General Practice Residency at Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton in 2017. Dr. Livengood served as a Dental Officer in the United States Navy from 2016 to 2025 and continues to serve in the Navy Reserves.
While in dental school, Dr. Livengood met his wife, Sara, a Kansas State University graduate and Shawnee native. During his nine years of Navy service, they lived in California, Japan, Hawaii, and the Chicago area. They’re happy to have since relocated to Shawnee to be near Sara’s family, and welcomed their first child, Caleb, in January 2026.
Outside of his professional practice, Dr. Livengood enjoys playing golf and softball, walking his Golden Retriever, Archie, exploring local craft breweries, and cheering on the St. Louis Cardinals.
